When Freya was battling leukemia, one of the hardest parts wasn’t just the treatments — it was the isolation. Long clinic days. Missed school. Time away from friends. Childhood suddenly put on pause. That’s where Hopecam came in.
HopeCam was founded in 2003 by Len Forkas after his own 9-year-old son was diagnosed with leukemia. He saw how lonely treatment was and created a way for his son to virtually connect with his classmates — long before FaceTime or Zoom existed. What started as one dad helping his child has grown into a nationwide nonprofit connecting thousands of children with cancer to their schools and communities.
HopeCam generously gifted Freya a tablet during her treatment. That tablet became more than just a device. It helped pass the hours during long appointments, lifted her spirits, and gave her moments of normal childhood in the middle of something so heavy.
In a season where so much felt out of our control, HopeCam gave Freya connection, distraction, and joy — and gave us deep gratitude.
